VIDEO: There Is More Than This Life, pt.3 MLK, Jr.

There are spontaneous, or rather serendipitous, discoveries in the process of art-making with a computer.  One secondary click and one intuitive selection can equal infinite permutations on a theme.  This short film's origin was a semi-random poke into unfamiliar online software.  Add music, a few frames of text, dissolve images into each other... and from the void emerges a wholly different work.  The morphing images lend powerful kinetic energy that seems to animate the portrait; the protean MLK shifts through the many aspects of what he has becom/ing through our culture and its iconography.  His prophetic words heralding his own death.  Condemned by man, yet speaking the gospel from the pulpit with confidence and compassion, he delivering the message to his brothers and sisters that they would get to the promised land.

At the core of his message: nonviolence and love, especially in the face of adversity and injustice: and in his poetic cadence, themes of nonduality to challenge the ego and intellect and open the heart, revealing the Oneness from which we all are.

The soundtrack, is a song Sid Gabriel and I wrote and performed last year, inspired by the OCCUPY & ANONYMOUS movements' momentum. We recently took on the name of our collective stage & multimedia persona, GABRIEL | SIA, and this song, "The Right to Protest," will be released and available for free download on our  Soundcloud site in just a few days, [url listed below], the first of a few we are excited to share.

—"We have guided missiles and misguided men."

"Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor;

it must be demanded by the oppressed."
